Disclaimer: I respect the office of the president, I'm not a GEJ-guy, but I am a skeptic of GMB, and I don't support APC or PDP. I deal with facts, analysis and truth, I have my conscience void of offence towards God and Man.
GEJ: Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Azikiwe
GMB: General Muhammadu Buhari
What makes a man tick, what defines a man, who defines a man, what differentiates a man from a legend? The answer is simple willpower.
Willpower to do the needful, the unthinkable, the damming, go beyond boundaries, thread where lions and scorpions dread to.
A legend isn't born, a legend is made, in few lines I'll tell you why GEJ is a 21st century democratic legend!
GEJ an enigma, a democratic hero, an icon, a man for some seasons, a man who belongs to 2 extremes, you either love or you hate him, he's seen as either slow or calculative.
I see him as a man who did the following:
1) Redefined the electoral process by allowing free and fair elections in all part of the nation.
2) Allowed the court of law to run its course without external pressure nor internal interference.
3) Allowed the passage of the (Freedom of Information) FOI bill which his predecessors reneged on, the same bill destroyed his political career.
4) Engaged in massive infrastructural project in the North a place maligned by Northern Leaders themselves.
5) Not one political assassination took place throughout his tenure unlike that of Saint Olusegun Obasanjo (Harry Marshall, Chief Bola Ige, Funsho Williams etc.).
6) Stood by his appointees, didn't hang them out to dry, takes a lot of courage.
7) Appointed the most women into powerful position more than any other government (Gender Equality).
8) Embraced the opposition and gave them free hand again unlike what Saint Obj did to AD in Lagos State, Lagosians have forgotten so soon how OBJ frustrated the state government.
9) With the enormous powers he had as CinC, he never resorted to the temptation of raining down fire and brimstone In Chibok and other BokoHaram Strongholds instead he followed the pattern of His Direct Predecessor Late Musa Ya Adua in extending an olive branch of Amnesty to those insurgents (something seen as weakness by some so called smart Nigerians). His inaction or slowmo was due to the situation known as “dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t”. Attack and be referred to as genocidal, with claims of systematic ethnic cleansing, don’t attack and you’re seen as inhumane, timid and callous.
10) Destruction and demystification of the dragon called 'godfatherism', something APC supporters want to revive without knowing. Smdh! GEJ didn’t kiss St. Obj’s ass thus irking the saint.
11) Redefinition of what it means to be a party leader, humble, meek, and really concerned about affairs of party faithful's.
12) Digitization of several government agencies, reducing chances of corruption, for this those who support 'ghostwokerism' are angry and need him out by any means necessary.
13) Coming from the minority, if you like call me a bigot or conspiracy theorist, this is a fact, and North Majority couldn’t bear to see a minority from an Oil-Producing region ruling the affairs of the nation.
14) Apparent overlooking and undermining the South Westerners in areas of government appointments while favoring the Northerners heavily, the silliest mistake he made, instead sought to lie with strange bed fellows, by sidelining the SW, you are reducing your votes from the South, knowing fully well that you are going up against a Northerner with full northern support, GEJ you need JESUS!!
15) Having a form of weakness, very indecisive (whispers from some camps even suggests that his wife probably has his remote) LOL . No doubt GEJ was sick the question is what was his ailment? “Normal” Nigerians say he suffered from Superfluity of Cluelessness (SoC), I say NO, instead he suffered from Superfluity of Indecisiveness(SoI).
16) Not in any way Charismatic, President Obama had nothing going for him, except Charisma, so far only fmr. Cross Rivers governor had that Donald Duke, even Gramps GMB is more charismatic than SlowMo GEJ.
17) He failed Nigerians (this part I don't understand) but it is still a case against him. Nigerians have been ruled by people who added no value whatsoever much (Sani Abacha, Abdusalami, Buhari, OBJ). All ex-military leaders have failed the State more than GEJ.
18) Surrounding himself with bad-advisers and making silly political appointments (Femi Fani Kayode, Reuben Abati, Doyin Okukpe, Obanikoro). Just look at how Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe embarrassed GEJ, PDP, MEND, Niger-Deltans, his family and Nigerians at large on national TV. This same man was a minister, what is wrong with Nigeria?? This same Orubebe guy is about to ditch his and Jonathan's party for the opposition APC party he so berated and almost caused confusion for.
19) Dared to break the political HEGEMONY of the North. THIS IS THE MAJOR REASON THEY WANT HIM OUT, GEJ was expected to be a Sheep-Dog but he tried to be a Great Dane (totally unacceptable as Northern leaders are PitBulls). The Northerner believe that Nigeria belongs to them, just like the Starks of Winterfell in Game of Thrones believe they are the Wardens of the North.
20) Deeply polarizing the country on religious lines, the nation was already polarized on ethnic lines but GEJ took it a little too far by bringing in religion.
21) Not kissing the boots of colonial masters and The West (US and Obama i'm looking at you), GEJ held his ground in the face of threats to FRN Sovereignty. The US since Obama undermined GEJ for his staunch stance on gay and the likes.
22) PATIENCE FAKA JONATHAN (Madam Peace) Nuff Said!
Above are the cases against GEJ and many more I omitted/forgot to put, let's take a pause. Do OBJ, Tinubu, Atiku, IBB, Fashola, Amaechi, Rochas love Nigeria more than ordinary Nigerians? If the salary of a President/Governor /Senator/Representative was $20 would they be shouting"CHANGE"? Why is an ex-military man being brought to champion change? I've studied history of major countries I'm yet to find where a Military personnel made a fine Democrat, it doesn't work simple! Military personnel’s only understand 2 words GO & DO, anything and everything else is confined within those Words. An adage is spoken often "you can take the man out of the village but you often cannot take the village out of the man".
Is GEJ a saint? NO. Are the opposition saints? Absolutely NOT. I believe and many Nigerians believe he's a good man, but people pulling his strings are bad and do not mean well for the country, coupled with the people surrounding him. Should GMB win (HE DID WIN)! I'll give a projection of how he'll rule. I’m not shortsighted, predicting the year after 2015. Update: Come April 1 2016 I’ll release a new work on the 1st year of GMB in power.
The Yoruba's formed alliance with the North, because Jagaban Tinubu, St. Obasanjo and Pastor. Osinbajo are Yoruba's and well placed within APC, forgetting that GEJ did the same when he picked a Northerner as his running-mate. How is he faring now? MKO Abiola was imprisoned under which person? Keep forming alliance with the North, by 2019; don't say I didn't warn you.
Irrespective of what GEJ does/did/would do, he would go down as the most vilified president in history of any democratic nation on earth, not even Benjamin Netanyahu and Vladimir Putin are this hated, however he will be remembered by history as the man who changed the face of democracy in Nigeria. Heck! He even congratulated President Elect GMB hours before the Official announcement by INEC just to douse tension in the land.
Final Thoughts:
- How can you fight your way out of a Lions den when you are a sheep?
- People who are close to their graves only seem to pull Nigeria towards that direction.
- The North, APC and Boko Haram didn’t allow GEJ the room to focus and concentrate on the needful, would PDP, MEND, NDPVF allow APC?
- Sometimes I wonder if GEJ was the specs-sheet/algorithm used by Apple Inc. to design the SlowMo capabilities of the IOS Video-Camera of the iPhone and the iPad.
PS: Expecting GMB to fight corruption with the same zeal and power he did 30yrs ago is akin to expecting sound to move at the speed of light.
