Recently I stumbled upon a picture post on Facebook, the picture was that of a collage of 4 different ladies, a wife, a baby, a mother and a baby-mama then a question was thrown to the public on the order of importance and priority of the listed ladies. As expected everyone commented based on their bias fueled by religion, morality, logic and rationale. I on the other hand did not comment, I did what I do 90% of the time I spend on FB. I read comments and counter-comments, this I do so as to come up with a distinct viewpoint on the subject matter. While reading the C and CC, something struck and stuck, someone asked why a baby-mama was deemed fit to be on the list, then online catastrophe began, I already got what I wanted so I slid out the post. After observing the prevalence of the term, I did a brief research and here are my findings.

Who Is a Baby Mama? Originally it meant baby-mother which in turn meant a pregnant woman or a woman with a young kid. Now this in no way was derogatory, demeaning nor did it define her marital status, it basically described her physical condition at the point in time.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines baby-mama as "the mother of a man's child, who is not his wife or (in most cases) his current or exclusive partner".
How to identify a Baby Mama?
1) The woman had something or has something with the man.
2) The child was gotten out of wedlock.
3) They both are not married and not planning to
4) The man most likely has another lady.
5) The man is relatively popular in some way.
Who coined the term? The term baby mama originated from Jamaica, the Jamaican creole ‘bebi mada’, its first use in a written form was in 1966 in The Daily Gleaner.
Is Baby Mama a derogatory word? Meaning of words changes with time, in our contemporary dispensation the use of the term is demeaning and derogatory. However some ladies seem to accept the term wholeheartedly these days. The major reason for the negative positivity is that most baby mamas are often connected to Music or Movie stars. That doesn’t change the fact that the word is used when silly, irrational and pathetic behavior is observed.
Is a Baby Mama equivalent to a Single Mother? Well this almost got me into trouble, as a man is it possible I don’t understand the difference between a Baby Mama and a Single Mother? Hardly

Baby Mama: also a woman with child, having no strong relationship with the father, only connection is the child, she becomes a baby mama ‘most often’ not by her choice, though some women now take joy in being a baby mama to a famous person on whom she depends wholly or partly upon for the child’s upkeep.

Rise of Baby Mamaism: In the era of ‘ISMs’, one cannot but add a befitting ism to the word baby mama, since it’s already a movement, an ideology, a way of live for some people. Baby-Mamaism is an ideology, a concept created by persistent social re-engineering pioneered by Hollywood, that seeks to create overtly irresponsible adults, vulnerable fellows, and deprive a child of full parental care (not that single parenthood is bad). This concept support irresponsible behaviors by men which sadly are fueled by women with next to no morals often drawn to the fame and fortune of the men. Lest we forget, this applies to all women who willfully choose to be baby mamas, for those who are unfortunate to be in such a situation my advice is to stay strong and not display negative traits of baby mamas, traits such as fighting and exchanging words in public, using the child as a leverage or appearing cheap to the baby father(be expensive) if he wanted you so much he would have married you.
The concept of Baby-Mamaism is a creation of persistent social re-engineering pioneered by Hollywood, it's a very wrong concept, making men overtly irresponsible and proud whilst leaving women vulnerable and plain stupid.
Can men be blamed for the rise? Aha! As the saying goes “it takes two to tango”, if there exist a baby-mama there exist a baby-father. For reasons best known to me I choose to differentiate between a father(biological connection) and a dad(physical and emotional connection). A Dad can have the biological connection too. Men are sure to take some sticks, the woman is an emotional creature, the man is a rational, a man plays on a woman’s emotions to get her, when he eventually gets her perchance she becomes pregnant and ‘wishes’ not to have an abortion, I use the word wish loosely. The man goes rational and decides he wants her to be a baby-mama instead of his wife or partner, the woman is left with 2 choices become a Single Mother or become a Baby Mother, more often than not a woman chooses the latter. The man made her what she is and so we cannot absolve the man of his crass action(s). In some cases the woman is the one who subtly gets impregnated by the man especially if the said man is rich, popular or both, for this specific case the man is fully absolved since he didn’t consent or agree to father a child, doesn’t however diminishes his responsibility or obligation to his blood.
Traits of a future Baby Mama:
1) Materialistic
2) Money-minded
3) Club-goer(she doesn’t work there in any capacity).
4) Lacking Moral Compass.
5) Whiner.
6) Worships Entertainment Stars (local or international).
7) Hunting for likes on social media by showing your body off.
