As-Salaam Alaikum brothers and sisters, Jumat Mubarak… I write with a conscience void of offence towards God and Man.
Sunday the 25th of September I wrote an op-ed where I pointed out the oxymoronic claim that a Christian can be a feminist simultaneously, amazingly an atheist friend (Edward E) posted something similar which made me wonder if he saw mine but he never did initially (spirit works in mysterious ways eh!). Yesterday another popular agnostic radical feminist (Nkechi Bianze) posted on a similar topic but she claimed it was possible to hold both beliefs sadly she presented NO BIBLE PASSAGE to support her claims.
Today I intend to show how it is OXYMORONIC to claim to be a Muslim and a Feminist concurrently. If there is any overtly and explicit Abrahamic religion that supports patriarchy then Islam is it. As most of my reader and followers would know I read the Quran and the Hadiths(Sahih Al-Bukhari to be specific; not gotten hold of a good Sahih Muslim Hadith) so I post exactly what is therein.
First, let's get things right by defining basic terminologies:-
WHO IS A MUSLIM? One who submits to the Will of Allah and believes Prophet Mohammed is His Messenger. A person can become a Muslim by confessing the Shahada or through Birth (a convert or a returnee recites the shahada, but anyone born into an Islamic home is automatically a Muslim). Sura 2:128.
KORAN/QURAN: is the primary religious text of Muslims, a book believed to be THE VERY WORDS OF ALLAH given to Mohammed in the month of Ramadan over a 23yr span, and often touted to be Allah’s last and final revelation can also be called Al-Furqan(The Criterion). Sura 3:3, 7.
With those definitions out of the way, let's dive right into the Islamic Sources to find out how women are treated.
Sura 2:223: Your women are a TILTH for you (to cultivate) ‘SO GO TO YOUR TILTH’ AS YE WILL, and send (good deeds) before you for your souls, and fear Allah, and know that ye will (one day) meet Him. Give glad tidings to believers, (O Muhammad).
Commentary: This verse was revealed when it was observed that some Muslims who had been influenced by pagan sexual rituals like anal sex/ doggy style, so this verse is saying the woman is like a soil, therefore the man can go in(via vagina only) as he likes, irrespective of her mood except during menstruation.
TILTH: old English word for HARD SOIL being prepared for cultivation.
Sura 4:34: Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those (WOMEN) from whom ye FEAR REBELLION, ADMONISH them and BANISH them to beds apart, and SCOURGE(beat, hit lightly) them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.
Commentary: Here if you ‘SUSPECT’ rebellion from your wife, correct, banish them and beat them albeit lightly until they change their ways.
Commentary: Here, Prophet Mohammed was discussing the sharing formula for children, as we can see in plain English, Mohammed made it clear that if a man gets $2, a woman can only get $1.
LET’S SEE WHAT THE HADITHS SAY
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, "Isn't the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said, "Yes." He said, "This is because of the deficiency of a woman's mind."
Commentary: Here, Prophet Mohammed in discussing Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia Law), said a woman’s testimony is WORTH HALF a man’s and when asked why he said so he said WOMEN HAVE DEFICIENT MIND.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I looked at Paradise and saw that the majority of its residents were the poor, and I looked at the (Hell) Fire and saw that the majority of its residents were women."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5198 Vol. 7, Book 62, Hadith 126
Commentary:Here, Prophet Mohammed claimed to have seen hell and what he noted was the majority of the folks there were women. Why did he say so? The next hadiths explain.
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "EVIL OMEN IS IN THE WOMEN, the house, and the horse.'
Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 7, Book 67, Hadith 31,32,33
Commentary: The passage is clear!
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If a man INVITES HIS WIFE TO SLEEP WITH HIM AND SHE REFUSES TO COME TO HIM, then the ANGELS SEND THEIR CURSES ON HER TILL MORNING." Sahih al-Bukhari 5193 Vol. 7, Book 62, Hadith 121
Commentary: very self-explanatory, a woman who refuses to have sex for sake of anything other than menstruation is accursed. Just when you thought this was a joke it was reiterated in the NEXT hadith.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If a woman SPENDS THE NIGHT DESERTING HER HUSBAND'S BED (does not sleep with him), then the ANGELS SEND THEIR CURSES ON HER till she comes back (to her husband). Sahih al-Bukhari 5194 Vol. 7, Book 62, Hadith 122
Commentary: here the woman's emotional state is irrelevant, since SHE'S A TILTH TO BE CULTIVATED she has to be ready for the man to perform good-deeds, just so the woman feels bad to not have sex with her husband a curse by the angels is placed thus making the woman sleeping obligatory against free-will and choice. Classic case of cognitive dissonance.
Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: A MAN WILL NOT BE ASKED AS TO WHY HE BEAT HIS WIFE. Sunan Abu Dawud 2147 Book 11, Hadith 2142
Commentary: you can beat your wife when you get to paradise, as a man, you won't be judged for it, in fact, it won't be asked. Happy Wife-Beating tallies nicely with Sura 4:34. If there's no repercussion for something wouldn’t it logically mean engaging in it wouldn't be considered bad?
Talq bin Ali narrated that The Messenger of Allah(Mohammed) said:
“When a man calls his wife to fulfill his need, then let her come, even if she is at the oven.” Jami at-Tirmidhi 1160/Jami` at-Tirmidhi Book 10 Hadith 1160
Commentary: The feelings and emtional state of a women are irrelevant, if the man wants to have sex, she has to comply.
SUMMARY
So Prophet Mohammed the BEST Muslim who ever lived (There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an EXCELLENT PATTERN for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often…Sura 33:21) describes WOMEN as the following:-
1) Tilth to be had ANYTIME
2) Advocated beating your wife if you FEAR stubbornness. Sentencing before evidence.
3) Said a female is worth half a man.
4) Rubbished the testimony of a female (she needs 4 witnesses to confirm a rape accusation or else she is stoned to death).
5) Said women had deficient minds.
6) Accused women of producing evil and thus most are in hell (technically true if we go by real world population).
7) Emotionally blackmailed women to sleep with their husbands just to avoid the curse of angels.
8) Emboldened men to beat their wives with the assurance that Allah won’t ask them the reason.
9) Advocated for men to have sex with their wives and she had to stop whatever she’s doing to “fulfill the needs” of the man.
10)Married an under-aged Aisha at 9y/o, while she was still playing with dolls.
As a Muslim who believes the QURAN is the DIRECT WORD of Allah and Prophet Mohammed is the BEST Pattern for humanity, if you hold to ANY feminist ideas YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE and Sura 9 outlines what should happen to hypocrites.
ISLAM AND FEMINISM ARE MILES APARTThere are ONLY 3 Ways to be a Muslim Feminist
1) Refuse to read Islamic most trusted books (Quran/Hadiths).
2) Living in Westerner Societies and studying Social Sciences.
3) Hyper Cognitive Dissonance and Ultra-Hypocrisy.
Conclusion: A MUSLIM cannot be A FEMINIST….Argue with the Quran and Hadith.
N.B: Those Hadiths are SAHIH (Genuine/Strong) so don’t try to play games here.
QUICK ADDITIONS
Can a Muslim woman have Abortion? Not according to the Quran and like Judeo-Christianity life begins at conception. Abortion on demand is highly prohibited, abortion for fear of poverty is also rejected Sura 6:151, Killing of children(fetus or otherwise) is a great sin Sura 17:31.
Sura 17:31 And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin.
MARRIAGE: like other Abrahamic religion, marriage is between a man and a woman, unlike the other 2 religions, a True Muslim MAN can marry at least 4 wives provided they have the financial means to cater for the women. No! A man cannot marry another man neither can 2 women marry each other[Sura 4:3].
Feminist ideology is driven on an emotional level. Men tend to talk logic; women tend to talk emotion.
